WHAT IS REMOTE VIEWING ?

Every conscious being has the natural intuitive ability to perceive and retrieve information independent of space and time. This ability can be improved through training.

The artist Ingo Swann translated this natural capacity into a step-based protocol in collaboration with engineer Harold Puthoff and other staff at SRI (Stanford Research Institute). Between 1972 and 1989, REMOTE VIEWING was tested, researched, and further developed under scientific conditions at SRI.

Remote Viewing (RV) refers to a method of psycho-energetic perception. The term was coined by SRI International and is defined as “the mental acquisition and description of information blocked from ordinary perception by distance, shielding, or time.” (SRI – COORDINATE REMOTE VIEWING MANUAL)

What distinguishes Remote Viewing from traditional psychic techniques is its rigorously tested scientific methodology. Remote Viewing follows a structured approach with clearly defined stages that systematically develop perception and reduce interference (noise/analytical overlay). Most RV methods are based on the protocol developed by Ingo Swann, called “Controlled Remote Viewing” (CRV), which emphasizes taking small, controlled steps toward accurate data, while avoiding interference from the analytical mind.

Remote Viewing is never performed spontaneously, nor in direct interaction with clients. All data is thoroughly documented, and sessions are conducted under blind conditions. This ensures that the information obtained stems solely from intuition and not from logical thinking or external communication.

Since Remote Viewing was declassified in 1995 (it was used as a tool for espionage during the Cold War), numerous variations of Swann’s original method have emerged. Today, various individuals and companies worldwide offer RV services.

WHO IS INGO SWANN ?

Born in the high mountains of Telluride, Colorado, on September 14, 1933, Ingo Swann came from a Swedish background. His grandfather, Andrew Gustafsen, immigrated to America as a stonemason and helped build the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. After his family moved to Utah, Swann studied art and biology and graduated in 1955 from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. He joined the Army and spent nearly three years in the Far East, where he explored Asian art and worked with teachers in Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. In 1958, Ingo Swann moved to New York City to continue his career as an artist. As his awareness of the aesthetic and philosophical aspects of art grew, he expanded his interests into the paranormal and metaphysical. To support himself, he took a job at the United Nations Secretariat, where he worked until 1969.

Ingo Swann is considered the father of Remote Viewing — a transfer of psychic abilities into a multi-stage protocol. Through strictly monitored lab experiments with verifiable results, he was a central figure in the scientific exploration of human consciousness capabilities at the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), under the direction of Harold Puthoff, from 1972 to 1985. It’s worth noting that initially, SRI was primarily interested in researching Swann’s “psychokinesis” abilities, also with the aim of making such skills learnable for others.

Ingo: “This was the seventeen-year period in which the elements of a remote viewing session were gradually filtered out from the rather vague confusion of parapsychological phenomena, and refined until CRV (Controlled Remote Viewing) existed as something distinct—complete with an entirely new and appropriate nomenclature. Once understood, it was no longer ambiguous, but could be recognized as a precise set of existing capabilities for which the blurry term ‘psychic’ was no longer useful.”

In addition to his research, Ingo was also a visionary artist. His works are currently exhibited at the American Visionary Art Museum, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.), Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, and the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives at USC Libraries.

Today, Ingo Swann’s legacy is lovingly managed by his niece Elly Flippen. In addition to the website ingoswann.com she maintains an active presence on X, Instagram und Youtube. Her book/project "Conjunction World" was recently released.
